What as a cooperative?

In the simplest of terms, a cooperative is a group of individuals who come together to create a mutually beneficial organization, in this case to increase our purchasing power and save money. There is no owners other than ourselves, the members. We are essentially a non-profit, returning the profits we do make to the member-owners, or reinvesting in our store and the community. We are a democratic-volunteer organization, all member-owners have a voice and are encouraged to use it, by voting.

Joining the co-op is easy, and your membership is a one time investment. There are no annual fees. Your investment of $90.00 for 9 shares of class A stock will benefit you in the following ways:

One of the ways Grass Roots Cooperative remains financially strong is through the investments of our member-owners. When you become a member, you buy stock in the co-op. This stock is equity and helps make the co-op*s balance sheet stronger. It enables us to repair and purchase new equipment, buy additional inventory, retire debt, and maintain our facilities.

By owning additional stock in our grocery store, you help the co-op to continue to grow and expand.
